Sunday BG got her hair chopped and today was her very first trip to the dentist. And I have to tell you she's probably the only kid in the greater mid-west that prefers the dentist's office and salon chair to the pumpkin patch and bouncey house. Seriously, put her in a room full of kiddos laughing and jumping their booties off and you'll find mine tightly wrapped around my leg whining that she doesn't want to leave... but doesn't wanna play. But give the girl a scraper, toothbrush, and "mr. suckey" as the hygienist disturbingly referred to the bendy straw that sucks spit and plaque out of your mouth -- and she's Miss Congeniality. What can I say? She's sure takes after her Grammie ;)
Check out the new do she got + braid. She LOVES the braid and wanted her hair cut as "short as mama's"... don't worry, I didn't oblige that one.
Thanks Amy for hosting your annual Santa party! Sorry BG and I were AGAIN the last ones to leave. Again I blame genetics... this time on my dad's side.
Yeah, yeah, tell me about it... I'm a failure of a mother that doesn't put up her daughter's bday pics, Halloween pics OR get this, even TAKE Thanksgiving pics -- sue me. Today I'm so in the Christmas spirit I can't even be bothered by the guilt of post-less holidays past. Here's why...
BG and I have been talking a lot about the naughty and nice lists... and let me tell you, I'm getting all the use I can from those babies! Well after picking up BG from school today and seeing the FAB mood she was in, I thought it'd be fun to see how far we've come with Santa since last year. Remember last year? No? Well let me refresh your memory.
How could you forget? I can promise you I never will ;)
Actually I was just trying to test the waters before we joined our friends for a Santa party next week. I wanted to be on good terms with the big guy. For sanity's sake. Well much to my shock and awe, BG did spectacular! Even took a picture with him... of course from the safety of mama's arms, but nonetheless, it's an honest to goodness Santa pic! I promise (seriously promise this time) to share when it's available online.
And adding to my Christmas buzz, I came home to our printed Christmas cards in the mail (5 days early!) and they just seriously crack me up. That's all that really matters, right?
And last but CERTAINLY not least, the star of the evening, Grammie's rendition of the Night Before Christmas arrived! Sweet Theresa bought this incredible Hallmark recordable book for Grammie to read to BG (we luv ya T!) and BG was surprised with it tonight. When Grammie told me it was in the mail she said she wished she could see BG's reaction when she opened it. Well, Merry Christmas Grammie, ask and you shall receive! Isn't technology grand?
PS. Please don't tell BG that her jammie bottoms and top don't match, she was really proud of her selection after bathtime.
PSS. Hallmark, if you're listening, next year give Grammie a few more seconds to record her personal greeting in the book -- poor thing had to record it 12 times to talk fast enough. And trust me, she has no issues with talking fast!
Each DAY we hunt and dig and search and think of new things to share for show-n-tell. Each that start with the new letter of the week. Let me tell you how hard it is to come up with 5 items (pre-school appropraite) that start with the letter "k."
BG: "k-k-k-k-k-k-k flashlight. Mama, does 'flashlight' start with the letter 'k?'"
She calls it "potty poo-poo" and that's just about as accurately descriptive as I've ever heard it. We're all feeling better and so glad Grammie came in town to take care of us!
I've been anxiously awaiting the day till BG was old enough to play board games with me -- just ask my cousins how much I LOVE board games -- and how distraught I was the day they took the hippos away. But that's a story for another ... much sadder... post.
So the day BG excitedly brought down Hi Ho Cherry O begging to play over and over again, I was beaming with pride. I couldn't wait to share in the thrill of the game with my only daughter. It would be like having my own live-in Milton Bradley.
It wasn't until my fifth spilled bucket of cherries, third agonizing loss, and hearing BG yell, "you're not winning... nanana-boo-boo" that I realized, competitiveness, is genetic.
And oh yeah, I don't like losing.
I got her back though -- next two rounds were mine. And guess who cried wanting to play AGAIN. She gets THAT from her Grandpa H!

William P. Young: The Shack This'll be my pick for BC -- anxious to read but doesn't look like that will happen for a few months.
Ken Grimwood: Replay Melissa's book club selection that still has me wondering if I'd be a flight attendant if I could do it all over again :) (****)
Stephenie Meyer: The Twilight Saga: Slipcased I'm so addicted no one would ever believe how much I'm mourning being on book 4 -- sad that the saga will end and where will I be without my Edward?
And yeah, for those counting would you believe all the books have 400+ pages and I've read them ALL in less than two weeks?! Uh huh, oh yeah!
Nancy Pickard: The Virgin of Small Plains: A Novel BC's May pick, I'm bringing it to the beach -- will keep you posted on my progress. It looks like a good one.
**update, awesome! Loved it! Lots-o references to KC! (*****)
Jeannette Walls: The Glass Castle: A Memoir Done Bubbee! And with only an hour to spare before the discussion. Book club rated it an A-... I'm giving it a C. I guess I missed the word "memoir" in the title. Would have made it a tad bit more interesting. (***)
